Itinerary
We will pick up in Puno around 2:00 p.m. to start our trip to the Sillustani Chullpas. On the way, we will stop briefly at the Yanamayo viewpoint, a great place to take pictures. From there, we will pass through the rural landscape of the agricultural and livestock community of the Atuncolla district. Upon reaching our destination, the Archaeological Site of Sillustani, we will have to climb a hill to reach the archaeological zone. On the site, you will have good views of Lake Umayo.
The guide will explain the meaning, use, and history of the funeral towers, which were used by the Pucará culture, the Tiwanaku Kingdom, the Kolla, and finally the Incas, after the conquest of the site. Mummies in fetal positions were housed in these towers to await rebirth. Some of the towers reach 12 meters in height, with a circumference that is wider at the top than at the bottom. There are also other structures from different eras: monoliths, an Intihuatana solar clock and Inca baths. A short distance from the ruins is the Site Museum, where various relics discovered in the area are displayed. After our tour we will return to the hotel in Puno. Return at approximately 18hrs.
