Arequipa City Tour

Arequipa City Tour: Enjoy the beauty of Arequipa’s countryside, see its colonial architectural monuments of white ashlar volcanic rocks. Also know the most famous viewpoints that have panoramic views of the region of volcanoes, rivers and waterfalls, pre-Inca terraces, and much more.

Itinerary

Pick up from your hotel in the center of Arequipa city to go to the Mirador de Yanahuara, a traditional neighborhood with cobblestone streets known for its 19th century arches and a panoramic view of the city guarded by its volcanoes. Then we will go to the Mirador de Carmen Alto, where you can see the terraces and the Chilina Valley.

We will continue our tour to the city center; the Plaza de Armas of Arequipa, declared Cultural Heritage of the Nation. We will provide all the details of the history of the Cathedral of Arequipa, of Gothic and Renaissance design, and built entirely with sillar (volcanic stone) and brick vaults. In addition, we will visit the imposing portals that surround the main square.

We will then head to the Church of the Company of Jesus, founded in the late 16th century and built with rock from the Misti quarries. We will review the fascinating history of its cloisters, its carved wooden altarpieces covered in gold leaf, and its colorful murals celebrating tropical flora and fauna.

We will visit the Tristán del Pozo mansion, whose façade is the greatest emblem of Arequipa’s ornamentation, according to several scholars of colonial architecture.

Finally, we head to the Monastery of Santa Catalina, whose history and colorful walls enchant everyone who visits. It is an unusual and very striking construction. Its more than 20,000 square meters include up to 22 rooms (both open and closed). Finally, we will return to the hotel after your visit to the Monastery.
