Lares – Ollantaytambo – Machu Picchu trek, Combine the best of the Lares Valley and the fascinating Inca archeological remains of Ollantaytambo and Machu Picchu. Our first stop is the colonial town of Lares, there, we can enjoy the hot springs before begin our four-day trek through the spectacular Urubamba Range. Each day is reasonably paced with enough time to enjoy the wonderful scenery, appreciating the life of the Andean farmers. On the fourth day we reach the legendary Inca town of Ollantaytambo, Next, we will take the short train ride to the Machu Picchu Sanctuary, one of the world’s most beautiful and important archeological remains.
Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco – Lares Hot Springs – Huacawasi
We will leave Cusco towards Lares at about 5:00 am by bus. We stop in Calca wichs is in the sacred valley During this trip we will pass several archeological sites and handcraft. We will first head for the Huanca ccasa pass (4400m/14436f) and then descend to Lares hot springs (3200m/ 10499f). Here we will have some time to relax in the pools of between 28 and 36 degrees Cº/82 and 97 degrees F. After lunch, we will continue our journey towards Huacawasi 3 horas walk (3600m/11811f), where our camping site is situated.
Day 2: Waca Wasi – Ipsay pass – Patacancha
The second day is the most beautiful one. After breakfast, we will start a 4-hours hike up to the Ipsay pass (4400m/14436f). Up there, we will visit some families that live from agriculture and textile design, inspired by their Andean gods. Thereafter, we will head down to the village of Patacancha (3650m/11975f), our camping site.
Day 3: Patacancha – Willoq – Pumamarca – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes
This day we will visit several communities and indigenous towns such as Willoq (3400m/11156f),Pumamarca (3200m/10499f) and Ollantaytambo (2850m/9350f), whereas the latter is considered to be the last citadel of the Incas, constructed according to Incan architecture. From Ollantaytambo we will take the train to Aguas Calientes (2050m/6726f), where we will spend the night in a hotel in aguas calientes.
Day 4: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco
We will leave our hotel after breakfast at 5:30 am and head for Machu Picchu (2400m/7874f) by tourist bus. We will arrive at the citadel around 6:00 am. After a guided tour around the archeological site, including information about life and culture of the Incas, you will have enough time to enjoy Machu Picchu on your own. We will leave Aguas Calientes by train either at 2:55 pm or at 6:10 pm. Until then, you will have time to have lunch in one of the nice restaurants. Moreover, you can visit the hot springs in Aguas Calientes to relax.
